IBM Maximo alternative

IBM Maximo and Asset Infinity both run work orders, preventive maintenance and spare parts on one asset register, and both can run on your own servers. They differ in scale, in how they are bought, and in how much work a rollout takes.

What is the best IBM Maximo alternative?

A good IBM Maximo alternative keeps what a maintenance team relies on in Maximo (work orders, preventive and condition-based maintenance, spare parts and a full asset history) and makes it quicker to roll out and simpler to buy. Asset Infinity puts maintenance, parts, purchasing, asset tracking with RFID, BLE and GPS, IT discovery and depreciation books in one product, with published prices, and runs in our cloud or on your own servers.

We make Asset Infinity, so we are not neutral. Every claim about Maximo comes from IBM’s own website as of October 2026, and where we could not confirm a feature we say so. This page compares features only.

Why teams look for an IBM Maximo alternative

People usually start looking for one of four reasons:

  • The rollout is bigger than the problem. A mid-sized plant, campus or hospital needs work orders and PM running in weeks, without a long implementation project.
  • They want to know the price up front. AppPoints are flexible, but some buyers want a price per asset they can read on a page.
  • Field teams need an app that just works. Technicians want to scan, close jobs and count stock from a phone, with or without a signal.
  • Finance and IT want the same register. Depreciation books, asset tags and IT discovery on the records maintenance already keeps.

If none of these apply, and especially if your organization already runs Maximo at scale, it may well be the right product to keep.

Who each product is for

IBM Maximo Application Suite

IBM describes Maximo as asset management that brings enterprise asset management, asset performance management and asset investment planning together, with AI embedded across maintenance, field work, reliability and planning. Its site lists condition-based and reliability-centered maintenance, AI visual inspection of images from cameras, drones and phones, AI-assisted inventory optimization, and specialized versions for real estate and facilities, renewables, IT assets and data centers. It names manufacturing, energy and utilities, oil and gas, transportation and government. It is sold as client-managed software or SaaS, licensed with AppPoints.

Asset Infinity

Asset Infinity is an asset register and maintenance system in one product. It suits organizations that need enterprise maintenance without an enterprise rollout: manufacturers, hospitals, utilities, facility managers and schools with many sites. Work orders, preventive maintenance, parts, purchasing, contracts and depreciation books sit on the same asset record as its labels and counts, and it runs in our cloud or on your own servers.

How to choose an IBM Maximo alternative

Weigh these criteria against your own work:

  • Maintenance depth: work orders, PM on dates, meters and conditions, job plans, and permits.
  • Reliability tools: failure codes, root cause analysis, asset health and predictive maintenance.
  • Mobile and offline: the app should scan, count and close work without a signal.
  • Inventory and purchasing: spare parts across storerooms, reorder points, purchase orders and receiving.
  • Locating assets: RFID, BLE and GPS, so an audit doesn’t depend on someone walking every room.
  • Finance: depreciation methods, and whether a book and a tax book can sit side by side.
  • Deployment: vendor cloud, your own servers, or both.
  • Buying and rollout: how pricing works, and how long it takes to be live at the first site.

IBM Maximo vs Asset Infinity: feature comparison

Yes means the capability is listed on IBM’s own Maximo pages, or exists in Asset Infinity today. Partial means a narrower version, explained in the cell. Not listed means we did not find it on IBM’s product pages; Maximo is a large suite that does far more than one page shows, so ask IBM if it matters to you. For our own product, No means it does not do it.

When IBM Maximo is the better choice

Choose Maximo if you run a very large, asset-intensive estate such as a power fleet, a rail network or a refinery, with a reliability team and an IT department to run the rollout. Its asset investment planning and AI visual inspection go further than ours, and its industry versions for utilities, transportation and data centers reflect decades of work in those sectors. If your organization already runs Maximo well, switching rarely pays.

When Asset Infinity is the better IBM Maximo alternative

Choose Asset Infinity if you need the core of an EAM system working at your sites quickly, on a register that finance and IT can use as well.

Asset Infinity maintenance plans for pump P-102 run every quarter or every 2,000 run hours, and a predictive plan triggers when vibration passes 7.1 mm/s.

  • Preventive and predictive maintenance: plans trigger on calendar dates, meter readings, sensor conditions, or a date on the asset such as a warranty end.
  • Work orders: requests are triaged into jobs that show whether parts, tools and permits are ready.
  • Parts and purchasing: stock across storerooms, reorder recommendations, purchase orders and receiving.
  • One price list: every price is on the pricing page, and a quote takes a few minutes.

Finding assets without scanning them

Asset Infinity can place an asset without anyone scanning it, which changes what an audit and a search look like.

Asset Infinity's RFID readers screen shows which tagged assets were last seen at which doorway, such as a compressor at the tool crib checkpoint.

  • Fixed RFID readers at doorways and rooms record where tagged assets were seen.
  • BLE tags place assets inside a building on a floor plan.
  • GPS trackers move vehicles and mobile equipment on the map and feed odometer and engine-hour meters.
  • IT discovery finds laptops and servers on the network and matches them to the register.

What switching looks like by team

A manufacturing plant

Each line’s equipment keeps its hierarchy, meters and PM plans. Run-hour and vibration readings come in from sensors and raise work when they pass their limits, and the job shows whether the parts are in stock before anyone is sent. Spares are reordered from the same system, so maintenance and purchasing work from one list. See asset management for manufacturing.

A water utility

Pumps, valves and treatment equipment across many sites share one register. Technicians close inspections from the app at remote stations with no signal, and the work syncs when they’re back in range. Finance keeps its depreciation book on the same assets, so the register and the ledger agree. See asset management for water utilities.

How switching from IBM Maximo works

  1. Export from Maximo. Export assets, locations, item masters, PM plans and open work orders to spreadsheets.
  2. Import into Asset Infinity. Put each list on its own tab of one workbook (Sites, Assets, Parts and so on) and upload it. You see problem rows before anything is saved, and can undo the import as one step.
  3. Keep your labels. An asset can carry more than one label, so existing barcodes stay valid next to new QR or RFID labels.
  4. Start with one site. Run its PM plans and work orders in Asset Infinity first, then move the rest.

Asset Infinity’s asset register starts at $130 a month for up to 500 assets with unlimited users; build a quote for your count. Read more about our EAM software, CMMS software, preventive maintenance software and the best EAM software compared, or book a demo with your own export.

Common questions

What is a good IBM Maximo alternative?

It depends on why you are looking. If you want maintenance, parts, purchasing, asset tracking and depreciation in one product with published prices and a rollout measured in weeks, Asset Infinity is worth a look. For very large estates that need asset investment planning and AI visual inspection, the other enterprise suites (SAP, IFS and Oracle) are the closer comparison.

Can Asset Infinity run on our own servers like Maximo?

Yes. IBM offers Maximo as client-managed software or as SaaS. Asset Infinity runs in our cloud or on your own servers, with the same features in both.

How is Maximo priced compared with Asset Infinity?

IBM sells Maximo Application Suite with AppPoints, a credit-based entitlement shared across its applications. Asset Infinity publishes its prices; the asset register starts at $130 a month for up to 500 assets with unlimited users, and you can build a quote on the pricing page.

Does Asset Infinity do predictive maintenance?

Yes. Maintenance plans can trigger on sensor conditions and meter readings as well as dates, a predictive plan can raise work when a reading such as vibration passes its limit, and each asset carries a health score. Maximo also offers AI visual inspection of camera and drone images, which Asset Infinity does not.

Can I move my data from Maximo to Asset Infinity?

Yes. Export assets, locations, item masters, preventive maintenance plans and open work orders from Maximo to spreadsheets and import them into Asset Infinity. You see which rows have problems before anything is saved, and you can undo the import if something went wrong.
